Adobe FLASH Interactive Game Design

Learning Soft, Inc — hired me to create designs and animations for their Flash gaming company. Learning Soft (based in Miami) developed online Flash educational games for kids. As a sub-contractor, I worked long hours with their (in house) Flash programmers. Fast forward to today’s internet platforms, Flash files (i.e. SWF files) are now obsolete on all modern browsers that are now using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. Thus, the Flash games that I helped develop cannot be played online. However, they can be played locally on most computer desktops.

My Art Direction:

All the game designs and animations were created by me using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash. Some of the Adobe Flash games I worked on – I used Maya 3D software to created 3D images to be utilized in the Flash Action Scripts. I did not do any script coding, but was able to understand and tweek parts of code as needed.

Space Raiders

Game Objective:

This Flash game is based on the classic video game Space Invaders. The game objective is to shoot the alien monsters before they grow too close to the space ship – thus destroying the space ship. This is not an educational game – strictly entertainment.

CONTROLS: A (single) Player must use the keyboard arrows for LEFT-RIGHT directions of the space ship. The SPACE BAR controls the laser gun to blast the space monsters.

My Art Direction:

All the designs and animations were created by me using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash.

Cola Coaster

Game Objective:

This Flash educational game was sponsored by PEPSI, Co. The game objective is to shoot the rollercoaster monsters blocking the track. After clearing the rollercoaster path the (single) Player enters into a Q and A area. The Player has a chance to earn points by answering the questions correctly.

CONTROLS: A (single) Player must use their mouse for LEFT-RIGHT “tilting” directions of the rollercoaster carriage. The LEFT MOUSE BUTTON controls the laser gun to blast the rollercoaster monsters and to choose an answer in the Q and A area.

Doggie Desert

Game Objective:

This is a (single) Player educational game for kids. The objective of the game is to fly the cute “Dog Ship” through the desert to a QUESTION and ANSWER area and shoot the spinning diamonds for points – also while in the QUESTION and ANSWER area the (single) Player must choose a correct answer to the trivia question. Upon choosing the correct answer the Dog Ship can continue the game longer.

CONTROLS: A (single) Player must use their mouse for UP-DOWN / LEFT-RIGHT “tilting” directions of the Dog Ship. The LEFT MOUSE BUTTON controls the laser gun to blast the spinning diamonds and to choose an answer in the Q and A area.

Disney Interactive | 101 Dalmatians: Escape From DeVil Manor

Game Objective:  (Fun and Adventure)

You are a Dalmatian puppy being held prisoner by Cruella De-Vil in her scary old and dusty mansion. All the other Dalmatian puppies are depending on you to rescue them and set them free. But before you can help free them, you have to get yourself out of the mansion. That means carefully sneaking through each room, hallway and courtyard. Exploring every corner and closet – quietly. You know there has to be an escape route somewhere.

My Art Direction:  (Illustration, Digital Design)

I helped design (3) of the game’s background layouts consisting of creating and positioning of 3D objects and color/mood schemes. The background designs were created using Power Animator and Photoshop.
Note: I did not do computer lighting of the scenes and some texturing.

Porsche | Flash Website Banner Ad (UX Design / Interactive)

Objective:  (Advertising)

This Flash Banner Ad was created to insert into any webpage that accepted banner ads. The Flash banner ad had an advantage over other HTML banner ads in that this banner ad was interactive for any website viewer. The Flash banner ad was programmed to have a slider to view the Porsche 911 GT2 sports car in a 360* manner.

My Art Direction:  (UX Design, Digital Design)

I created the idea for the banner ad; I designed the UX slider layout of the banner and the look and feel of the banner. The sports car (360 degree) photos were taken at the auto dealership. Photoshop was used to adjust the car photos and erase the backgrounds.

Note: I did not do any Flash Action Script Coding.
Note: *Porsche logo and car is a stock photo – it is a place holder for my Portfolio Video of the project.

Flash Media Factory | Flash Website Intro

Objective:  (Website Intro Promotion)

I was hired as a Sub-Contractor to help design, create and animate a Flash website intro for the Flash Media Factory’s website.

My Art Direction:  (Digital Design, Motion Graphics, 2D Animation)

I used Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash to design the entire intro. Music and sound FX were acquired from a stock library.
Note: I did not do any Flash Action Scripting.
